新世代の近郊型通勤車両。車両の床高さとホームとの段差を少なくしたうえ、車椅子対応大型トイレの設置やドア周辺の警戒色の配置、開閉時の表示灯などバリアフリー化を実現した。吊手はオリジナルの新デザイン開発を行い、のちにE233系通勤車両にも設置された。
A new generation of suburban commuter railcars. In addition to reducing the difference between the floor height of the car and the platform, barrier-free features such as large wheelchair-accessible restrooms, placement of warning colors around the doors, and indicator lights when opening and closing the doors have been achieved. The hangers were developed with a new original design and were later installed on the E233 series commuter cars.
